Frequently Asked Questions

Menopause is one day. It marks the day when 12 months have passed since a woman’s last period. The average age of menopause in North America is 51, however it can occur between the years of 45-55 and in some cases even earlier. The years leading up to menopause are called PERIMENOPAUSE. Perimenopause can start as early as the 30’s, but typically starts in a woman’s 40s.

Common signs include hot flashes, night sweats, anxiety, palpitations, irritability, sleep disturbances, low libido, vaginal dryness, joint pain, and vertigo. The list goes on and on. We have estrogen receptors throughout our body so the decline in estrogen during the perimenopause and menopause years has many far reaching symptoms that can impact any body parts.

The answer is a resounding yes! For the majority of women, hormone replacement therapy is safe and effective at not only addressing the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, but it also protects the bones and heart from disease. The fears surrounding hormone replacement therapy are based on research that has been debunked.

Yes. If you’ve struggled with mental health, it’s not uncommon for these struggles to worsen during the transition years. For some, new symptoms of depression and anxiety can emerge.

Your symptoms are generally the best guide to determining if you are in perimenopause. Blood tests are not helpful as hormone levels fluctuate day-to-day and hour-to-hour. If you being to experience symptoms that are new or changing, it’s important to talk to your health care practitioner. You do not need to suffer in silence!

Your first consultation will be about an hour in length. A thorough health history will be taken and you will leave with an action plan. This plan will include nutritional guidance, supplement support and lifestyle modification suggestions. Then, you will have an appointment with one of our menopause trained nurse practitioners to do bloodwork. We want to make sure your iron levels, your thyroid, your cholesterol, your insulin, your vitamin D, and many other markers are optimized. The nurse practitioner may also discuss and prescribe hormone replacement therapy at that visit. Most importantly, you can expect to feel HEARD. You will leave with a plan and you will start to FEEL BETTER.
